Brazils mid-Aug IPCA consumer inflation 0.28% - IBGE

São Paulo, 25 - Brazils most-closely watched IPCA consumer price index rose 0.28% in the month to mid-August, compared with an increase of 0.11% in the month to mid-July, the Brazilian Census Bureau (IBGE) said Thursday. The figure has met the higher end of market expectations, which ranged from 0.08% to 0.28%. The mid-August result has left inflation for the year at 3.91% and for the last 12 months at 6.30%, the IBGE said. Fixed-line charges, which rose 3.39%, had the biggest individual influence on the mid-August IPCA. Other items weighing on the preliminary August IPCA were fuel ethanol (up 4.22%), gasoline (up 1.14%) and domestic help (up 1.86%). On the other hand, food and beverage prices fell 0.67% in the month to mid-August, while electricity rates declined 0.65%. The IPCA is the main reference for Brazils monetary policy.
