IBGE sees Brazils 2005 harvest up 13.3% at 134.9m mt

Rio de Janeiro, Jan 27 - Brazils federal statistics agency, known as IBGE, on Thursday said the countrys 2005 harvest of grains and oilseeds should reach 134.9 million metric tons, representing a 13.3% increase from the previous annual crop. The new projection is 0.67% higher than the 134 million tons previously estimated by the IBGE in November. The latest IBGE forecast takes into account production in the Southeast, South and Central West regions, as well as in the states of Rondônia, Bahia, Piauí and Maranhão. In addition, the IBGE confirmed that Brazils 2004 harvest stood at 119 million tons, 3.68% lower than 2003s 123.6 million tons.
