By Mark Taylor Rock & Roll wild child Avril Lavigne is coming to Pacaembu stadium on the 25th September. So expect lots of new wave North American punk, albeit with a softer edge.
For those who don't know the background or detail to Canadian Lavigne's blessed career, she struck a record deal with Arista at 16 years of age, as well as earning a Manhattan apartment. But Lavigne didn't like the way her career was headed in NY so left for LA. There she was grabbed by Nettwerk, and her melodic edgy sound was tweaked by producer/songwriter Cliff Magness to produce her debut album Let Go.
This hit big in Summer 2002 with her spiky-fun debut song "Complicated", followed by "Sk8er Boi", and the less successful "I'm With You" and "Losing Grip". Butch Walker (Marvelous 3, Our Lady Peace), Raine Maida and Don Gilmore (Linkin Park, Good Charlotte) signed on to help with Lavigne's second album, Under My Skin, released May last year. From this she has released singles such as "My Happy Ending", "Nobody's Home", "He Wasn't" and "Don't Tell Me". Although a successful album this hasn't repeated the impact of Let Go.
Note for the concert that Under 12s must be accompanied by parents or guardian. Ticket prices range from 60 - 140 Reais, and can be bought from Ticketmaster.
