This week's entertainment guide features a popular pizzaria in Jardins, an Irish theme pub in Pinheiros where you may hear the bagpipes, modern art in the form of fifty landscape paintings at the Galeria Arte Infinita, the famous Ipiranga park which has recently been renovated, and a recent movie from the Japanese horror stable.

If you like great pizza then Margherita Pizza is the place for you! Located in Jardins, the pizzaria is simply decorated but has a traditional Italian style and atmosphere. Most importantly the pizza is extremely good, a particular recommendation is "country" (sweetcorn, chicken, and "requeijao"). Although the pizzaria is large it is very popular and can get busy at weekends. For those who find it too busy or are local a delivery/collection service is available. Finnegans is a supposedly Irish themed pub located in Pinheiros. The decor, like all theme pubs, is over the top but the atmosphere is good and the pub is usually busy. Although the pub has three floors it isn't large, so those who want to invite several friends for a special occasion are recommended to book ahead. The usual range of beers and cocktails are there, along with Guiness and some traditional food e.g. irish stew. If you're lucky you'll be treated to a flavour of Scottish tradition (despite the Irish theme) as some evenings a piper (with bagpipes of course) plays there, dependent on whether he is travelling. Typically there is live music at weekends. Rua Cristiano Vianna, 358. (11) 3062 3232. http://www.finnegans.com.br
Marcelo Guarnieri is exhibiting at the Galeria Arte Infinita in Pinheiros. Working in colour for the first time in twenty years the exhibition is composed of 50 paintings on acrylic which form great mosaics that fill the walls. Guarnieri's inspiration is the landscapes of Patagônia, where he recently travelled. Rua Mateus Grou., 629. (11) 3032 3151. http://www.arteinfinita.com.br
Although it's typically one of the first places to visit in Sao Paulo now is a good time to revisit or catch that missed opportunity at Ipiranga Park as the gardens and fountains have recently been renovated. The park was opened in 1890 as a monument to Brazil's independence and transformed into a museum five years later. Its huge collection dates from the mid-19th to the early 20th century and depicts the historical and social characteristics of that period. Outside the museum are landscaped gardens modelled after those of the Palace of Versailles in France. The gardens also contain the famous monument to independence.
Dark Water (Agua Negra) was released at the cinema last Friday. Starring Jennifer Connelly, John C. Riley, Tim Roth and Pete Postlethwaite, this is another of the recent trend of J-Horror (Japanese Horror) remakes. Connelly plays a recent divorcee, engaged in an ongoing custody dispute for her daughter with her estranged husband, as well as struggling with moving in to a dilapidated apartment. As if things weren't problematic enough strange things start occurring in the apartment and the inevitable shocks and scares result. The film generally hasn't been well received, particularly in relation to the previous J-Horror films such as The Grudge and the original Japanese version of Dark Water. Fans of the genre may well still enjoy it though.
