Brazil: São Paulo Entertainment Guide

This week's entertainment guide for São Paulo features a Spanish restaurant in Pinheiros, an exhibition about a famous Brazilian, a farm for kids to experience, this week's recommended film release, and a roundup of some other upcoming events.

If you want a taste of Spanish cuisine and seafood then pay a visit to Don Curro. Considered one of the best seafood restaurants in São Paulo, Don Curro of course serves the famous paella (with lobster, mussels, shrimp, chicken and other items imported from Spain). The restaurants itself has a tank capable of storing 800 live lobsters, to ensure a fresh meal. The wall between the restaurant and kitchen is glass so offers customers a view of what is happening in the kitchen. Starters include various presentations of oysters, mussels, and other typical seafood. There are many options for the main dish including the aforementioned paella, other rice dishes, lobster, and grilled fish. A simple and small dessert menu includes tarts and ice-creams. That famous Brazilian Carmen Miranda is being celebrated in an exhibition at the Memorical da America Latina. The exhibition is separated into two modules. The first brings texts by Ruy Castro, writer and author of a biography of Carmen, and the Curator of the exhibition, Fabiano Canosa. In the start these cover her early career and fame as a radio singer. Rare pieces, such as a machine she used to make her costumes, costumes themselves (both originals and replicas) documents and a vast iconography locate the viewer in the intimacy of Carmens life. The second module brings the resurgence of the "Brazilian bombshell", after 1953, when her career started in the USA. Free entry. Parking R$5 for the first hour, and R$1 for each additional hour. The small farm Pet Zoo is a way from the city centre (35km) but bound to be a hit with young children. Children are able to feed animals like cows, pigs, peacocks, ostrich and buffalo. They can also participate in activities like horse rides. Other highlights are the miniature bull Chocolate and trained pony Pipo, who can "give hoof" and lie down. Theres also an animal nursery with baby chicks, rabbits and pigs. Tickets R$15 for adults, and R$16 for children (2 - 12 years). Children under 2 and adults over 60 are free. Continuing our Oscar theme, this weeks recommendation is Good Night, and Good Luck (Boa Noite e Boa Sorte in Portuguese). Directed by George Clooney, who also has a writing credit, the story is set in the early 1950s during the time McCarthy era of communism witch hunts. CBS reporter Edward Murrow (David Strathairn) and producer Fred Friendly (George Clooney) decided to take a stand against Senator McCarthy, at great personal risk and toll, to try and bring down one of the most controversial senators in US history. A quick summary on some musical events happening in São Paulo. Those infamous grumpy Northern English rockers Oasis bring their "Dont Believe the Truth" tour to Credicard Hall on the 15th March. Tickets range from R$120 - 250. Rock veterans Foreigner come to Credicard Hall on the 16th March, bringing famous hits such as "I Wanna Know What Love Is". Tickets range from R$80 - R$200. The UK group Echo & The Bunnymen, touring with their new album "Siberia", come to Credicard Hall on the 19th March. Tickets range from R$70 - R$160. The UK acid jazz group Jamiroquai are coming with their Dynamite tour to Credicard Hall on the 24th March. Tickets range from R$90- 130. Carlos Santana is coming to São Paulo on the 17th March, in a show dedicated to his recent album "All That I Am". The show will be located in the Skol arena at Anhembi.
